Enes Kanter Freedom Ejected from WNBA Game After Heated Exchange with Natasha Cloud

Former NBA center Enes Kanter Freedom was escorted out of Wintrust Arena in Chicago on Sunday evening during the third quarter of a WNBA game, following a contentious verbal exchange with Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud.

The incident occurred while the Indiana Fever held an 81-75 lead over the Sky during a timeout. Cloud initiated a verbal outburst directed at Freedom, who was seated courtside. Freedom responded and moved towards the playing area, prompting security personnel to intervene and remove the eleven-year NBA veteran from the premises, amidst audible jeers from the Chicago crowd.

Immediately after his removal, Freedom took to social media platform X to express his disapproval, stating: "I just got kicked out of a @WNBA game for supporting WOMEN! Let that sink in, AMERICA!" He followed this with another post, asserting: "It’s always women hating on other women."

Context of the Courtside Exchange

The altercation unfolded against a backdrop of previous public statements. Cloud had previously characterized the United States as "trash," to which Freedom had publicly offered to purchase her a ticket to countries like China, Russia, or Turkey, suggesting she could experience actual tyranny firsthand instead of making what he called 'woke complaints.' Additionally, Freedom attended Sunday's game wearing a shirt displaying the definition of "woman," a message Cloud reportedly did not appreciate.

Team Reactions to the Incident

Following the game, Chicago Sky players Azura Stevens and Aicha Coulibaly were questioned by reporters regarding Freedom's ejection.

Stevens quickly dismissed further discussion on the matter, telling journalists: "There was just a fan incident and the security handled it. We’re going to just focus on the game." She declined to answer any subsequent questions concerning Freedom.

Pregame Incidents and Social Media Posts

Before his ejection, Freedom had engaged in other actions that could be seen as provocative. During halftime, he shared a photograph on X taken outside an arena restroom, accompanied by the caption: "It’s halftime and I need to use the restroom… Rules are rules @WNBA."

Earlier in the day, Freedom was also involved in a tense encounter outside the arena. A group of individuals, described as progressive fans, confronted him, necessitating security personnel to form a protective barrier around the 6-foot-10 former NBA player. During this confrontation, one spectator made an obscene gesture, while another reportedly yelled, "You were sorry in the league!" He subsequently posted a video of this confrontation on X, writing: "We are getting attacked before the @WNBA game in Chicago."

Freedom has consistently faced criticism for his vocal defense of female athletes, and on Sunday, he was observed alongside supporters of player Sophie Cunningham prior to tipoff.

While security removed him from the venue on Sunday, it remains uncertain whether the WNBA will permit him entry into future arenas. Despite the controversy, Freedom appears unfazed by the public reaction and has expressed a willingness to challenge the league's policies.

In the game itself, Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever defeated Chicago with a final score of 113-90.
