Trick Williams faced a challenging path to reclaim the United States Championship for a second time at Sunday Night’s Main Event.
Crucial Pre-Match Challenge
A significant hurdle stood in Williams' way: his manager, Lil Yachty, needed to endure five minutes in the ring against Baron Corbin to even grant Williams an opportunity at the title. Despite the daunting task, Yachty managed to hold his ground, successfully securing the championship shot for Williams. Even after the bell, Corbin put Yachty through a table, but the objective had been achieved.
Immediately following the unconventional preliminary bout, Williams was granted his United States Championship match. With the State Farm Arena in Atlanta resonating with support, Williams made a memorable entrance to the ring, where Corbin awaited him as the contest officially began.
Williams' Path to Victory
The championship encounter was a fiercely contested affair from the outset. Both competitors exchanged powerful forearm strikes and delivered double clotheslines in a relentless effort to gain an advantage. At one point, Corbin appeared poised to retain his title, forcefully launching Williams into the steel steps and then into the ring post. Taking a moment to recover outside the ring, Corbin then retrieved the United States Championship belt.
As Corbin attempted to bring the belt back into the ring, Lil Yachty intervened, initiating a tug-of-war for the championship. The referee's attention was drawn to Yachty, who was partially in the ring. Seizing the distraction, Corbin struck Williams with the belt and attempted a pinfall, but Williams managed to kick out just in time.
Williams then executed his signature maneuver, the "Trick Shot," successfully pinning Corbin to secure the victory and the championship.
This triumph marks Williams' second reign as United States Champion. His initial capture of the title occurred earlier this year at WrestleMania 42, where he defeated Sami Zayn. He subsequently lost the championship to Corbin at SummerSlam, making this recent victory a successful redemption to reclaim the prestigious belt.
With the Money in the Bank event on the horizon, Williams is anticipated to face a lineup of formidable challengers for his newly acquired title. Among the potential contenders are Carmelo Hayes, Johnny Gargano, and Ricky Saints, all vying for an opportunity to challenge the new champion.
