An Illinois woman is facing three murder charges in connection with the death of her 2-year-old son, in a situation that has prompted comparisons to the widely reported Lindsay Clancy trial. Authorities confirmed that Corie A. Walsh, 40, was charged following the discovery of her child.
On Friday, Walsh remained under medical care for what are believed to be self-inflicted wounds, which are not considered life-threatening. Police in Frankfort, located approximately 36 miles southwest of Chicago, discovered her injuries when they responded to her residence on Tuesday, according to a department news release. Upon her release from treatment, Walsh is expected to be transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, where she will await a court hearing.
Investigation Underway in Frankfort
Officers from the Frankfort Police Department arrived at Walsh’s home on Tuesday afternoon, where they found her son unresponsive. Emergency responders administered CPR, and the child was then transported to a local hospital, but was later pronounced deceased.
Police also reported that three other individuals were found inside the Walsh residence on Tuesday; they were unharmed.
Allegations and Public Comparisons
Prosecutors have indicated that Walsh was reportedly closely monitoring the Clancy trial and engaging in online group discussions about the case just hours before her son was found. Court documents cited in various reports allege that Walsh held beliefs that her son was the "anti-Christ" and the "devil." The young boy was reportedly discovered by a neighbor, hanging by the neck from a rafter in the basement of the home.
The tragic death has left local residents in shock. Carolyn Pappas, a neighbor, expressed to an area news outlet earlier this week that the circumstances immediately brought to mind the case of Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother who confessed to killing her three children before attempting suicide.
"This is just absolutely devastating, that this could be another Lindsay Clancy situation in our neighborhood, in our community," Pappas stated. "You never think it's going to hit so close to home. And, so, yeah, that absolutely makes us think of that. And, again, just more people, I think, are struggling than we realize, and, so, we just need to be there for one another."
