Bronze Star Veteran Michael Bouchard Secures GOP Nomination for Michigan's 10th Congressional District
Republican Michael Bouchard, backed by Donald Trump, won his primary in a critical district for the GOP's House majority.

Michael Bouchard, a Republican congressional candidate and decorated Bronze Star veteran, secured the party's nomination on Tuesday evening for Michigan's 10th Congressional District. His victory followed an endorsement from former President Donald Trump.
The Republican Party is banking on Bouchard's distinguished service record and his platform, which emphasizes correcting the nation's trajectory, to win this crucial district. This win is vital for the GOP's efforts to maintain its narrow majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
However, securing the district in the general election is not assured.
A Contested District
The district's competitive nature is evident from recent elections. The outgoing incumbent, Representative John James, a Michigan Republican, previously won reelection in 2024 with 51.1% of the vote against Democratic challenger Carl Marlinga, a former prosecutor and judge, who received 45.0%.
In the preceding electoral cycle in 2022, Representative James defeated Marlinga by an even slimmer margin of 48.8% to 48.3%.
Despite the advantages of incumbency, James declared he would not seek re-election to his House seat. Instead, he announced a campaign for governor, stating his intention was to safeguard Michigan's prosperity for future generations.
My family, like countless others, came to our great state for the better opportunities our manufacturing and automotive industries offered and to live the American dream.
Bouchard's Platform and Endorsements
Bouchard's campaign prominently features his military service, including his tenure with the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions. His deployments included Iraq and the U.S. southern border. Mirroring James's own military background, Bouchard was honored with a Bronze Star for his contributions while serving with the joint task force combating ISIS.
As a political newcomer without prior experience in public office, Bouchard presents himself as a key figure in the nation's ongoing pivot away from the policies of the current administration.
In a campaign video, Bouchard asserted:
Under President Trump, I led missions on the southern border; back then we got the job done. But on day one, Joe Biden shut us all down; he opened the border. Human trafficking, drug smuggling, known terrorists walked right in. The Army taught me that weak leadership has consequences and I’m ready to lead America back.
His campaign website outlines core policy priorities, including strengthening American manufacturing, completing the southern border wall, and enhancing parental involvement in educational institutions.
Earlier this year, former President Trump formally endorsed Bouchard through a post on Truth Social.
A third-generation Michigander, brave U.S. Army veteran and Bronze Star recipient Mike has served his state and nation with distinction and will bring that same fighting spirit to the U.S. Congress. Mike Bouchard has my complete and total endorsement to be the next representative from Michigan’s 10th congressional district.
Beyond the former president's backing, Bouchard has garnered support from several prominent congressional Republicans. These include U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), and GOP Conference Chair Lisa McClain (R-Mich.).
With his primary victory secured, Bouchard now advances to the general election scheduled for November 3.
