New intelligence from Israel reportedly suggests Iran has developed a fresh plan to assassinate former President Donald Trump.

Israel recently transmitted intelligence to the United States, indicating that Iran had formulated a new plan to assassinate former President Donald Trump, according to a report published Thursday that cited individuals familiar with the details.
This reported intelligence signifies a significant escalation in the persistent threats directed at Mr. Trump. Iran has repeatedly vowed retribution against him for the 2020 U.S. military operation that resulted in the death of General Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force.
"They want to take out the U.S. leader — me. I’m on whatever list. I saw this morning I’m on every single one of their lists. And, so far, I guess I’ve been a bit lucky, but maybe that doesn’t last very long. These are evil, sick people. And we have to root out that cancer. That cancer. You know what you do? You’ve got to cut out cancer early. And that’s the way I feel," Mr. Trump remarked regarding the threats.
Diplomatic Divergence and Continued Coordination
The intelligence regarding the alleged plot emerged as Mr. Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have shown differing approaches in recent weeks regarding the path forward following last month's confrontation with Iran. Prime Minister Netanyahu has advocated for maintaining military pressure on Tehran, while Mr. Trump has expressed a desire to uphold a delicate ceasefire established after U.S. strikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities.
Despite these differing views, Mr. Trump and Mr. Netanyahu held a discussion on Thursday. A statement from Mr. Netanyahu's office confirmed their agreement to continue coordination between the two nations, adding that Mr. Trump also provided an update to the Israeli leader concerning recent U.S. activities in the Gulf region.
Persistent Threats from Tehran
Further underscoring the ongoing tensions, Iranian mourners attending the funeral for Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei were observed chanting calls for Mr. Trump's death and displayed a banner prominently stating, "We Will Kill Trump."
For several years, Iran has publicly committed to retaliating against Mr. Trump for the U.S. operation in Baghdad in January 2020 that killed Soleimani, who was then the former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force.
