California Man Sentenced to Decades in Prison for Murdering Ex-Partner in Front of Their Young Son

More than two years after a distressing 911 call made by a California mother culminated in her tragic killing, witnessed by her four-year-old son, the man identified by prosecutors as the perpetrator has been sentenced to decades behind bars.
Jeffery Kendall, 39, received a sentence of 50 years to life in prison on Monday for the murder of 30-year-old Brittany Elizabeth Ligdis. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office reported that the killing occurred just 10 days after Ligdis had ended her relationship with Kendall.
In May, a jury found Kendall guilty of first-degree murder and child endangerment, acknowledging that he placed the couple's young son in a dangerous situation.
Tragic Events Unfold During 911 Call
Prosecutors detailed that Ligdis made a 911 call on the morning of February 16, 2024, after Kendall forcibly entered her home in Pinole. She was reportedly hiding in a laundry room with their four-year-old son when she made the call.
Approximately 90 seconds into the emergency call, Kendall entered the room where Ligdis and their child were concealed.
“Let go of me,” Ligdis pleaded, according to the district attorney’s office. “You're scaring him.”
