The divorce filing by Jelly Roll against Bunnie Xo occurred on May 18, though the Grammy-nominated artist indicated May 9 as their date of separation. The couple's relationship began in 2015 when Bunnie, then a former sex worker, encountered the burgeoning music star at a Las Vegas concert. They subsequently eloped the following year. Their marriage spanned nearly a decade before its official dissolution in July.

Explaining her decision to Hager, she remarked, "Everybody loves to watch a train wreck. So, I mean, yeah, I was not going to participate in that circus."

She emphasized her autonomy, asserting, "I am my own person. I stand on my own two feet, even alongside my ex-husband." She further elaborated on her distinct identity, stating, "I was still my own entity and had my own brand aside from him."
